FAQ Q1: What is the difference between AC motor and PMSM motor?

AC motor is simple in structure, easy to manufacture and of high reliability. At the same time, it can withstand large changes in operating temperature. The biggest problem is that the starting torque is small, thus, it is necessary for AC motor to increase the starting current to generate high torque, which has higher requirements on the output power of battery. Also, it has lower efficiency; the performance of regenerative brake and speed regulation is not so good comparing with PMSM motor. While PMSM motor, with high efficiency, small size and light weight saves more than 20% energy compared with AC motor. Both space and energy matter.
